D5OO Dimpler is a precision metallographic lapping instrument for TEM specimen preparation, usually before the ion milling procedure. The specimen mounted on illuminated specimen platen is flattened and dimpled by four designed tools respectively. The specimen thickness is controlled by three-mode microprocessor timer/controller (including the Z termination micrometer, the preset timer, or visually if specimens become optically transparent when thin). So the D500 Dimpler can produce ultra-thin region (<5m in thickness) necessary for successful, artifact-free ion thinning while maintaining a robust peripheral thickness (100ptm) that helps prevent breakage while handling the specimen.
